Adalia Lai
Currently pursuing an MFA in Lighting Design at Parsons School of Design with a foundation in Interior Design (BFA, Parsons) and diverse experience spanning luxury retail construction, project coordination, and community engagement. Currently gaining hands-on expertise as a Lighting Design Intern at Tillett Lighting Design Associates.
My background combines technical design skills with creative exploration—from managing high-end retail construction projects at Cartier to studying acting for film at New York Film Academy. This interdisciplinary foundation allows me to approach lighting design with both analytical precision and artistic sensitivity, understanding how light shapes not just spaces but human experiences.
Born in China and educated internationally, I bring a global perspective and cross-disciplinary approach to design projects as a multilingual professional. Diverse learning experiences across multiple continents have enriched my cultural understanding and collaborative skills.
Proficient in Rhino 3D, AutoCAD, and expanding expertise in specialized lighting design software. My passion for film photography—particularly landscape capture from worldwide travel experiences—continuously informs my design practice and spatial understanding.
Recipient of Presidential Service Award and Mayoral Service Award for 100+ hours of volunteer work supporting visually impaired individuals, disability rehabilitation, and educational mentorship. This community engagement deepens my commitment to inclusive design and accessible environments.
Graduating Spring 2026 and particularly interested in creative management roles, especially positions that blend design and project management within design firms and creative studios.
